I miss how things felt when I was a child.I miss the nervousness of the first day of school,
and the excitement of school shopping with my mom.I miss elementary school breakfasts,
little boxes of cereal and milk,
in tiny cardboard cartons.I miss the crisp air of early mornings,
waiting for the school bus to come.I miss sitting with my dad at the bus stop,
listening to John Boy and Billy,
as the day slowly woke around us.I miss stepping off the school bus in the afternoon,
the kind of freedom that only belongs to childhood.I miss telling my brother about my day,
sharing the small triumphs, the funny moments,
the things that felt so important then. Most of all,
I miss the ordinary things I never knew I'd miss,
the pieces of life that seemed so small at the time,
but somehow became the memories I carry forever. The older I get,
the more I realize it wasn't just the moments I loved. It was the feeling of being there,
back before I knew that someday I'd miss it.It was home.
